I don’t know if it would be practical to ignore ‘lesser’ gods. Pele can flatten your village with a volcano. Zeus can turn you into a wolf or zap you with lightning. Not being able to take YHW directly does not make them less capable of doing us harm. Might want to hedge your bets.
