On the Editing Blues
I just realized the story following ‘What Price Home?’ is 136,000 words long, and that is without any backmatter, forward, or even a title page.
Yes, some stuff will have to be taken out. But there is going to be a lot of stuff added as well. The kind soul who edited ‘What Price Home?’ correctly picked up that a war starts directly after the book ends, and that the motive for the murder and spying — keeping Adelberta locked up so that the lords who come to her defense can be arrested- isn’t resolved in any way.
Sheepish chuckle…the next book is about one of the lords being kidnapped and his daughter rescuing him. As is, Adelberta gets rescued off-page. Whoops.
And then there is a whole subplot with a maid looking to marry a blacksmith which goes nowhere, a ton of characters who perhaps aren’t strictly necessary, and a lot of…stuff…
Editing is a beast. Don’t do it alone, folks.
