So…Test Title
I cannot decide what to call my work in progress. I have more or less written it, revised it considerably, and taken it down to 97000 words from 98000.
It involves a kingdom that traditionally elects its kings, but the only kings that would be eligible for election are currently very young children. Our protagonists are plumping for a regency council made of all the lords, and another faction is holding out to put all the little princes in one man’s hands to make him a sole regent. (Princes are like Pokémon, you collect them all to level up.)
The mother of one of the princes, Isabella, holds a costume ball during Epiphany to persuade the lords to join the regency council and not turn to a sole regent, but someone has been sabotaging her castle, scaring her and her servants.
Then, during the ball, her marshal, in charge of security, is murdered. Only the nearest person to the murder is two of our protagonists’ stepmother. (Listen, get you a man like Karl Von Saxe-Kline, whose says when he discovers his family in trouble, “So this is how we are going to fake an accident.”)
Our protagonists must discover Isabella’s saboteur and Chleb’s murderer before she goes on procession with all the lords wanting to kidnap her son.
So, what do I call it? ‘Kingdom of Lies’ is the name of a TV show or something.
‘A Deadly Principle’ ?
‘Deadly Principalities’ ?
‘Honor-bound’ ?
‘ Co-operation or Death.’ Ok, that’s just dumb.
Trust and the lack thereof is such a big theme here, how about ‘The Faith of the Many’ ?
Or keep it simple with ‘Who Killed the Marshal?’ ‘Disguised Death,’ or ‘Intrigue and Costumes.’ That last one is dumb. Something about the Three Kings? ‘Come All Ye Deadly’ ?
Help! Weigh in while you can.
